This homemade strawberry simple syrup recipe will be your new go-to for all of your favorite drinks! It is made with 4 simple ingredients, including fresh strawberries, lemon juice, white sugar and water, and is an excellent way to use up any left over strawberries that are about to expire.
1cupstrawberries*, cut in half or in fourthsapprox 6-7 strawberries
1cupgranulated sugar
¾cupwater
1tbsplemon juiceapprox ⅓ of a lemon
Instructions
Cut the strawberries into halves or fourths.
Add the lemon juice, water, strawberries and sugar into a small to medium sauce pan. Heat over medium to low heat, stirring often until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not allow it to boil.
Once the sugar has dissolved, allow the mixture to steep for 10-15 minutes.
Strain the liquid mixture through a mesh strainer into a heat resistant container. You can throw out the strawberries or blend them to make a puree for your drink. This simple syrup will last up to ten days in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
Notes
If using frozen strawberries - Allow the strawberries to completely thaw them remove any excess water before using them. I usually place them in a strainer while they defrost then on top of a paper towel to absorb the water.Store this syrup in an air tight container in a cool dry place for up to ten days. It can also be stored in the fridge if your kitchen or pantry run warm. Give it a good shake if you notice the sugar separating from the water at all. This is more likely to happen in the refrigerator.
